The Cinema Advertising Council (CAC) today unveiled its 2011 report on cinema advertising revenues. At the local level, year-over-year revenue growth of 3.4 percent was generated, with local making up 20.9 percent of total cinema spending, a 5.7 percent increase from 2010. Since 2002, the industry has grown nearly 2.5 times, generating over $4 billion in total spending. In the past five years alone, cinema advertising spending has averaged nearly $600 million, growing at an average annual rate of 15.7 percent.

According to the association’s report, total cinema advertising industry revenues of CAC members – which account for more than 90 percent of U.S. movie screens – grew by 12.7 percent to $658,255,000 in 2010, as compared to a total of $584,067,000 in 2009. The Arbitron Cinema Advertising Study 2007: Making Brands Shine in the Dark, is a follow-up to Arbitron’s 2003 cinema advertising report. One of the central themes that arose from this national survey of Americans age 12 or older is that a significant number of moviegoers accept on-screen commercials as part of the total entertainment experience.
